Lancôme Tonique Confort – Review

Toning was always a step I overlooked.  Recently though, I’ve been taking better care of my skin and adding toning into my routine. Funny thing – my skin is better for it. The extra TLC I’ve been giving it works.

Until recently I was using quite a harsh toner.  It was very drying and although it did help improve my pores and reduce blackheads, it made my face red and patchy.  I hate wasting products but I didn’t want to have come a long way with my skin to just have it be red and damaged by my toner. So I went on the hunt for something better.

I’ve heard a lot of good things about Lancôme skincare so searched the Feelunique website for toners in their range.  They have a lot to choose from but I settled with the hydration tonic.

It’s wonderful.  So refreshing, cooling and calming.  Great after a face mask or exfoliate as it’s super hydrating too.  It’s got a good consistency (think gravy?) and a little goes a long way.

I apply it with my fingers and take some time to really massage it into my skin and enjoy the cooling temperature and calming smell.  On the bottle it says ’tissue off’ honestly I don’t know if that means you need to wipe it off after but I find it soaks in so there’s no need?

I’d recommend not using a cotton pad to apply as you end up losing a lot of the product to the cotton wool.

Casually Hanging out in a Multi Story Car-park

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

Is this not the most natural place to take photos? No?…  I wondered why we were getting some odd looks. Hey look its those jeans again!  And these boots show up fairly often too…

It’s officially autumn and that brings with it the joy of coats.  This year I knew what I was looking for when I went out shopping, I couldn’t spend too much but obviously wanted a coat that would last.  This one is perfect, cozy, pockets, a nice collar and a good length. It has it all!

Favourites September Edition – Summer Memories

This summer brought with it a lot of change and a lot of excitement. Of course my birthday should be the highlight of summer for everyone around me, but this year we had other things to celebrate.

Since I’ve been married I have been sharing my husband with another being.  I think it’s fair to call it a being because it’s taken up so much of his time and energy, has caused us excitements, stresses and disappointments. This summer my husband finished his PhD and is now officially Dr Mundy.  We attended his graduation in Manchester and it felt like some kind of birth/funeral hybrid.

This trip also brought with it another excitement, driving. Earlier in the year I passed my driving test (second try, all the best drivers pass second time).  We bought an old car from a work friend and the 5 hour drive from Norwich to Derbyshire was the first long drive I made.  I had to do all the driving, it was equal parts exhilarating and terrifying.

We moved house (again. We have lived in a different house for every year we have been married). Moving brought us closer to our allotment from which we got our first (and last) harvest! We’ll still be eating the potatoes at Christmas.  We also abandoned the idea of an allotment in favour of a container garden.

Plus there was A LOT of great coffees and brunches with Laura from Rose and Weston. More of that in Autumn please!

Always the Same Jeans

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I’ve noticed that I always wear the same pair of jeans…  At least in my blog posts!  I do have other jeans I promise.  My next outfit post will mostly likely also feature these jeans, but after that I’ll try and mix it up!  No guarantees though, I do love this pair.

The best thing about these jeans is that they are pretty easy to dress up or down.  This outfit was my second of the day, the first being a simple t-shirt and jeans job.  But with a switch of top and the addition of a jacket it went from casual to smart.  This has pretty much been my go to evening outfit the past few weeks because it’s so easy and comfortable.

These shoes are a bit of a killer though.  The first time I wore them they cut my heels so badly I was a little worried I’d bleed out… They are now stained with my blood and that shows up really obviously in some lights so I got very few close ups of the pretty gold heels…

Black Boot Wish list

Whilst curating my capsule wardrobe I’ve noticed a few gaps.   This is one of the most exciting parts of the capsule wardrobe in my opinion.  I can spend a little more on the item because I’ve already thought about how I’ll wear it and it should go with most things I already own.

A big hole I’ve noticed is a heeled boot.  Or more accurately, a black heeled boot.  I wear black boots pretty much everyday and having a pair that I can dress up a bit more is a must this season.  Here’s my little wish list of boots.  Some realistic, some not so realistic.

Top faves are the Gabi bootie by Alexander Wang , the Proenza Schouler Leather ankle boots and the Miss KG Gold Heel Boots.

Which are your favourite? Any great pairs I’ve missed?

When I Wear Makeup…

“Everyday Makeup” wouldn’t really be an accurate name for this post.  More often than not, I don’t wear make up.  I love putting it on and playing around with new looks, but most days I’m too lazy, preferring to spend an extra 10 minutes in bed than getting up and doing my face.

However I do have a quick ‘go to’ look for days I have a little more time.  It’s very minimal and one that’s easy to dress up when required.

The products I’m showing are ones I’m currently using, but things like foundation or mascara change regularly depending on what took my fancy when I was shopping.  If you have any product recommendations I’d love to hear them.  I’m particularly interested in picking up a tinted moisturiser, so leave your suggestions below or let me know on Twitter!

Sephora Teint Infusion – Very buildable, light and moisturising without leaving you too shiny.

NYX Above & Beyond Concealer – A new product to me but so far it’s great, full coverage, matte but not TOO matte.

Natural Collection SunTint Bronzing Powder (Sun shine) & Blushed Cheeks (Peach Melba) – Again, buildable, well pigmented, not cakey.

Rimmel Stay Matte – A staple in my makeup kit, does what is says on the pot. What more can you ask for!?

NYX Badunkadunk Mascara – Fantastic, lengthens, adds volume, not waterproof but that’s cool with me! Add to curled lashes and boom!

Maybelline 24hr Color Tattoo (Pink gold) – I’ve been lusting after these pots of wonder for a long time and finally got myself one.  I was not disappointed. Creamy, long lasting and works well with other shadows cream and powder alike.

L’Oreal Paris Gold Obsession (Nude gold)  – I love everyone of these lipsticks and choosing just one was so hard.  I’m really glad I went for nude, so much more versatile.  Does need to be topped up throughout the day/night but it doesn’t leave your lips looking patchy or dry.  A subtle shimmer and beautifully natural nude.  Definitely a ‘my lips, but better’ look.

Favourites: July Edition

For my July favourites I want to focus on my favourite household objects.  More specifically my favourite objects in my favourite room.

We have recently moved house and are working our way through the rooms getting them just the way we like them.  The first room was my dressing room / office, I might do a post on that another time.  We are just putting the final touches to the living room, this is the room that’s quickly become my favourite.

We don’t have a TV (we watch a lot of Netflix and DVDs) so we normally just load whatever we want to watch up on a laptop.  Our living room is very minimal and I love that your eye isn’t drawn to a massive black rectangle as soon as you step in.

For our anniversary we bought ourselves a new radio/CD player/Bluetooth speaker system.  We are in love with it, it looks really sleek and a bit retro and is super simple to use and set up.  The sound quality is great and it comes with a whole load of features like an alarm and a sleep timer that we’ve not really looked into yet.

We have a lot of green in our lives. Hubby’s parents recently adopted our cats and since then we have felt a real lack of life in the house – plants are the next best thing to pets I think. They lift your mood and they can be interesting to watch grow and change.  They will fill the four legged gap until we are ready to welcome a new fur baby into our lives.

I’m a knitter, and, as such, I make many many blankets, cushions and sometimes foot stools!  Knitted fabric is a wonderful texture and when it’s a nice colourful pattern it can be a real feature in your room, we have a table/basket (we got ours from IKEA) that holds all our blankets when it’s too hot for them.

Everyone loves a candle, right? I particularly like The White Company for candles. At the moment we have Ocean Tide.

We are planning to add a chair and a coffee table to this room and then it’s done done done!

What’s your favourite room and why? Let me know down below!

OOTD – Hat Outfit

I’m still very much in the process of getting my wardrobe together,  I want to have a good basic wardrobe, something capsule like, and then build from there.  Part of this process is putting together outfits, wearing them and seeing how I feel!

I’ve always played it pretty safe, I don’t like the feeling of people looking at me in public so I normally try not to stand out with what I wear.  On the other hand I want to wear what I think looks good and what I feel comfortable in.  I’ll often put an outfit off because I think people will look at me, when in reality people don’t really give a shit what I’m wearing and I should care what people think! So I’m putting together some odd outfits and trying them out, if I feel good in them it’s a success and then I’ll start looking at other ways to style those pieces.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA5e5da198-f8f9-4eee-ab16-5f36ad5d7b4c

For this outfit I wanted to style my favourite white shirt with a skirt I rarely wear because I’m unsure if it’s flattering, I wanted to wear boots because I quite like the look of ankle boots with a skirt but I’m worried it makes my legs look stumpy.  Then accessioning, I wore the coat to bring it together a bit, it made to look a little smarter I think, my bag is my everyday brown bag and then the hat.  The hat was the real uncertainty, I asked my mum on her thoughts and she wasn’t convinced and normally that would be enough to send the hat back to the clothes rail, but this time I thought ‘No’.  I wore it and loved it.  Even if it was way too hot for it…

All in all I think this look has an edgy smartness too it, something I’d wear to a nice lunch with fancy people, I feel better about the skirt and the hat so they will move on to the next round of styling.  It’s kind of like a game show for clothes!

Thanks to Laura at Rose and Weston for taking these pics!

I like to add links to the actually items I’m wearing where I can, however where that isn’t possible I will link to a similarly priced and designed item.

Favourites : June Edition

This month has been a real mix of a month for me.  It’s had some stresses and some excitements.  We just got our first car, we’re moving house and I’ve changed my working structure.  All very exciting but also very stressful. Here’s a few things I’ve been doing this month to keep stress to a minimum.

I’ve been trying to focus on some self care, keeping myself relaxed and chilled out.  If you read my last blog post you’ll see my new favourite deep cleanse skin routine. (These are the products I love)  It’s not an everyday routine but once a week I really like to give my face the TLC it deserves.

Painting my nails is not really something I’ve ever kept on top of, but this month I’ve tried to keep my nails freshly painted at all times. I enjoy taking the time to carefully apply the varnish and letting my hands rest for 30mins while they dry.  I particularly like Essie nail polish, there are so many great colours and with my Sally Hansen Double Duty base and top coat, I’m getting about a weeks wear out of them before they start chipping. Here I’m using the colour Cocktail Bling.

Me and Andrew have been re-watching How I Met Your Mother, it’s such a great show. When we both get in from work we don’t really feel like watching anything new, watching an old favourite is so relaxing and HIMYM is totally brain chewing gum.

Other than that I’ve been drinking a lot of tea, tea is my saviour for a stressful day.  A good mug of Yorkshire tea, perfect!

Read about my Tea and Mug collection.

What do you do to de-stress at the end of the week?

Skin Care Routine – Deep Clean

My skin has been in serious need of some care.  It’s been dry, oily and I’ve been breaking out really bad.  When my skin gets bad it really effects my confidence and makes me much less likely to take care of myself, it’s a vicious cycle!

This weekend after watching a bunch of skincare videos on YouTube and poking at my face a bit, I decided to give it some much needed TLC.  The products I used are not things I would use together everyday but for a really deep clean it’s worked really well and my skin feels fresh and clean.  It’s noticeably clearer.

Having clean skin is a much better base for your make-up too, you’ll use less products trying to cover dark patches, blackheads or blemishes.  I feel much more confident skipping the foundation if my skin is having a good day, and that helps it breath and ultimately I’ll have more good days!

img_0114img_0116img_0124img_0134
I used my Simple Cleansing Oil to breakdown and make-up or dirt on my face, this product is fantastic: it’s the first cleansing oil I’ve used and see no need to try anything else at the moment.

Next is my Dr. Organic Dead Sea Mud Mask, this leaves my skin smooth and fresh.  On my nose I like to use something that really targets the black heads.  I get a lot of black heads on my nose but these Boots Tea Tree and Which Hazel with Activated Charcoal nose strips are amazing.  I see results right away.  Plus the satisfying ‘look what came out of my face’ thing after you take it off. I know its kinda gross but come on, we all love it.

img_0177img_0192img_0205
It’s time to tone!  A step I used to ignore because I felt it really dried out my skin, but if you’ve got a good moisturiser then you should be good. Toning is really important for closing your pores, controlling oil and keeping your skin fresh.  I have two toners I like, first is another Dr. Organic and also one from the body shop.

The nose strips come with a moisturising strip which feels so good, I could leave it on forever.  I’ll use whatever moisturiser I’m most into and depending on whether it’s day or night will change that, I like to use an SPF for the daytime, but I don’t need it at night.  Right now I’m finishing up a little pot of the Body Shop Vitamin E cream. Around my eyes I use some of the Elderflower Gel, this is great for morning or night, it gives brightness and moisture.

I finished up at bed time with a Night Treatment Gel from Boots on top of that I use an Anti-Stress Sleeping Masque from & Other Stories.

Don’t forget your lips!  A quick scrub with a LUSH lip scrub and a really thick lip balm.

I was in face heaven, my skin looks and feels great, and it’s so relaxing to indulge in some self care.

Happy Skin Care Times! x
