About a year ago I cleared out all my bags. Donated pretty much every single one and bought myself a bag that, I thought, would do me all occasions. It would not. I needed a bag for fancier times and I saw one on sale in the faulty bin in The White Company and grabbed that and with a simple fix had a lovely grey bag that was a little more dressy.
I’ll spare you the story of each of my bags, but lets just say I now have more bags than when I did that initial clear out and the bag I bought that “would do me for everything” is one of the least frequently used bags I own… Figures…
Last week, however, I bought a new bag, and this one really hits a lot of marks. Not so good for a dressy occasion but for day to day use it’s perfect!
I was looking at basket and bucket bags and for me both of these styles of bag had little flaws that I couldn’t get over. Basket bags need to be held in your hand, meaning you have one less hand for doing things. Bucket bags are often very structured and can have hard edges which dig in and poke out at funny angles. My new bag has neither of these issues.
It’s very lightweight, a must for me right now. The fabric is soft on the bag and the strap so it doesn’t rub against your skin. It has a long strap that you can carry on your shoulder or wear across your body. The baskety bit at the bottom helps it hold some shape so when you put it down all your stuff doesn’t tumble onto the floor. Plus those tassels are just lovely… It’s from Pull&Bear, I bought mine on ASOS.
I kicked myself when I got into the city and realised I’d forgotten to wear my new favourite scarf. I think the outfit works without it but the scarf added something… I’m not sure what… oh wait. I know. Warmth!! I was so freaking cold taking these pictures!
This is my first real “put together” maternity outfit. I’ve been unconvinced by maternity wear, not sure if it’s a waste of money. I bought myself this shirt from H&M and I’m so glad I did. Putting on a well fitting item of clothing can really help you feel good. I’ve not wanted to post outfit pics because I’ve not really been happy with what I’m wearing, but on this day I felt like myself again and loved it. I’m not going over the top with maternity wear because I still think it can be a bit of a waste of money (except the jeans, they are so comfortable I just want to live in them forever). But having a few nice items in my wardrobe is going to be important for me I think.

I’ve noticed that I always wear the same pair of jeans… At least in my blog posts! I do have other jeans I promise. My next outfit post will mostly likely also feature these jeans, but after that I’ll try and mix it up! No guarantees though, I do love this pair.
The best thing about these jeans is that they are pretty easy to dress up or down. This outfit was my second of the day, the first being a simple t-shirt and jeans job. But with a switch of top and the addition of a jacket it went from casual to smart. This has pretty much been my go to evening outfit the past few weeks because it’s so easy and comfortable.

These shoes are a bit of a killer though. The first time I wore them they cut my heels so badly I was a little worried I’d bleed out… They are now stained with my blood and that shows up really obviously in some lights so I got very few close ups of the pretty gold heels…

This jacket has been one of my favourite things this summer, and I’m looking forward to getting more regular use out of it in Autumn. I bought it the very day these photos were taken. It was the evening of a work do, when I got into the city and felt that, as comfortable as I was, I look a little scruffy and not good scruffy. I popped into Next and there was the jacket, on sale, £16 down from £45. What more can you ask for! I got it a size up for extra oversized-ness. It helped give my outfit a more ‘put together but relaxed’ look.

I’m still very much in the process of getting my wardrobe together, I want to have a good basic wardrobe, something capsule like, and then build from there. Part of this process is putting together outfits, wearing them and seeing how I feel!
I’ve always played it pretty safe, I don’t like the feeling of people looking at me in public so I normally try not to stand out with what I wear. On the other hand I want to wear what I think looks good and what I feel comfortable in. I’ll often put an outfit off because I think people will look at me, when in reality people don’t really give a shit what I’m wearing and I should care what people think! So I’m putting together some odd outfits and trying them out, if I feel good in them it’s a success and then I’ll start looking at other ways to style those pieces.
For this outfit I wanted to style my favourite white shirt with a skirt I rarely wear because I’m unsure if it’s flattering, I wanted to wear boots because I quite like the look of ankle boots with a skirt but I’m worried it makes my legs look stumpy. Then accessioning, I wore the coat to bring it together a bit, it made to look a little smarter I think, my bag is my everyday brown bag and then the hat. The hat was the real uncertainty, I asked my mum on her thoughts and she wasn’t convinced and normally that would be enough to send the hat back to the clothes rail, but this time I thought ‘No’. I wore it and loved it. Even if it was way too hot for it…
All in all I think this look has an edgy smartness too it, something I’d wear to a nice lunch with fancy people, I feel better about the skirt and the hat so they will move on to the next round of styling. It’s kind of like a game show for clothes!
Thanks to Laura at Rose and Weston for taking these pics!
I like to add links to the actually items I’m wearing where I can, however where that isn’t possible I will link to a similarly priced and designed item.
Today’s outfit is more of an excuse to show off a particular jumper.
I love this jumper, it’s super duper soft and warm, it’s got cute little owls all around the yolk and it fits perfectly. This is a jumper I made myself, it’s possibly my most successful knitting project so far.
Becasue it’s so warm it can only come out in winter and today I wore it with my new cape and a scarf which kept me perfectly warm.
I kept my makeup natural, I went with my Too Faced Cocoa powder foundation in the shade Golden Light, a few colours from my Naked palette and my new BOURJOIS matte finish lip in the colour Nude-ist.
It’s that time of year!
With so many options for Christmas jumpers I thought I’d have a look at a few online and let you know how I feel about them. Some wonderful and some not so wonderful…
Please use #elfieselfie to show me any pictures you have with the Elfie Selfie jumper!

Possibly the most important ingredient in a good OOTD is lighting. Today has been a very grey day but I’ve got an OOTD down on my schedule and no other time this week to photograph one, so we went out and all in all felt uninspired. Looking over the photos however, I feel like the lighting, the surroundings and outfit work really well together, it’s winter it’s not going to be gloriously sunny!
I’m still getting over a cold, so I wanted something comfortable and I’ve been looking forward to wearing my new boots so they had to go on today too. My hat is super snuggy and was perfect to cover my bad hair day.
I picked up a few new rings which I’ve been playing around with, more on those soon!
